Renting near Imperial: South Kensington or White City?
Imperial’s South Kensington and White City campuses need different housing searches. Confirm where your course teaches, where your lab is based and whether you regularly visit more than one site before choosing an apartment.
Choose the right starting point
Where should I rent for Imperial?
For South Kensington, start by comparing South Kensington, Gloucester Road and Earls Court. For White City, start with White City and Shepherds Bush, then compare wider west London options such as Ladbroke Grove where the journey works. Confirm which campus your course uses.
South Kensington
Use the Exhibition Road campus and your actual department as the destination. Compare a central walk with the full journey from a wider west London search.
White City
Choose the specific campus building on Wood Lane before comparing homes. If your course uses both campuses, test both journeys against your weekly timetable.

Can I choose an Imperial flat from overseas before knowing my campus?
Confirm whether your course uses South Kensington, White City or both before committing. Ask your department if this is unclear. Compare the home’s available date, furniture and complete journey, then arrange a remote viewing where possible. A home described as convenient for Imperial may suit one campus better than another.

Understand the campus you need
South Kensington
Imperial’s main campus is on Exhibition Road, SW7 2AZ. The university lists South Kensington station, served by the District, Circle and Piccadilly lines, as the nearest Underground station. That is a starting point, not the complete journey from a home to your department.
White City
The campus is on Wood Lane in west London and has multiple buildings. Use Imperial’s White City map to identify your specific destination; do not substitute the South Kensington address in your journey search.
Other Imperial locations
Some courses and placements involve hospital sites or other campuses, including Silwood Park. Check your course information rather than assuming every Imperial student travels to the same place.
Where should you start looking?
For South Kensington: compare South Kensington, Gloucester Road and Earl’s Court if proximity is a priority. If you look farther out, compare the full route and monthly cost. Fulham or Putney may offer different options, but suitability depends on the exact home, station and timetable.
For White City: start with White City and Shepherd’s Bush, then compare wider west London options if needed. Walking distance to a station does not establish walking distance to your particular campus building.
For a course using both sites: test two complete journeys from each shortlisted property. A home that works for occasional visits may feel different with early labs or late sessions. Verify any campus shuttle eligibility, timetable and stops directly with Imperial before relying on it.
Compare the full housing cost
Our displayed prices are whole-home monthly rents. Bills are excluded. Allow for the listed deposit, utilities, broadband, travel and council tax where applicable; ask how any shared costs and liability are handled. Full-time student council tax treatment depends on the household and the council’s requirements.
For illustration, a £2,600 monthly rent costs £31,200 over 12 months before bills and other costs. This is a budget calculation, not a listing or a local market average. Confirm the tenancy length and start date rather than assuming a private rental follows university term dates.
What to check in a viewing
- Desk space, daylight, storage and a suitable internet connection for study.
- The walk from the building entrance to transport, including your return after a late lab.
- Lift access, stairs, furnishings and any building move-in rules.
- Current availability, total move-in payment, referencing and guarantor requirements.

Questions before renting for Imperial
Does “near Imperial” always mean South Kensington?
No. Ask which campus and teaching building the description refers to. South Kensington and White City are separate destinations, and some courses use other sites.
Can I use one shortlist for both campuses?
Yes, but test each property against both journeys and your weekly timetable. Check campus transport information directly rather than assuming a shuttle makes every location convenient.
Are these university halls?
No. These are private rental options offered through Chase Evans. This independent guide is not affiliated with Imperial. Compare Imperial’s official accommodation service separately if you want halls.
Can I rent for the teaching term only?
Ask about the specific property’s permitted tenancy length and start date. A private tenancy should not be assumed to match term dates or include a break clause.
What should an international student prepare first?
Start with your exact campus, whole-home budget, occupants and move date. Request the referencing checklist and discuss any guarantor requirement. Arrange a remote viewing where possible and submit documents only through the agency’s verified secure channel.
Ask for a shortlist that fits
Tell Valerio your university and teaching building, maximum monthly rent for the whole home, move-in date and number of occupants. Keep identity and financial documents out of the first enquiry.
