Renting near LSE: plan around your teaching building
London School of Economics and Political Science is centred around Houghton Street, Aldwych and Lincoln’s Inn Fields. “Near LSE” should mean a practical journey to the buildings on your timetable, not simply a central London postcode.
Choose the right starting point
Where should I rent for LSE?
Start with Holborn and Bloomsbury if proximity to the Houghton Street area is your priority. Compare Blackfriars and Southwark, or a wider search around Elephant & Castle, if you are willing to travel. Check the route to your actual LSE teaching building rather than choosing by postcode alone.
Houghton Street / Aldwych
Compare the whole-home rent, bills, transport and your timetable together. A central address does not guarantee a short walk, and a lower advertised rent does not establish a lower total monthly cost.
Apartments to compare for your university
These homes are currently marked on market. Check the full journey to your teaching building: some options require public transport. Rent is for the whole apartment, with bills excluded; availability must be reconfirmed.

How can I rent near LSE from China without a UK guarantor?
Start by confirming your LSE teaching building, move-in date, occupants and whole-home budget. Tell Valerio before applying that you do not have a UK guarantor, so the referencing requirements and any acceptable alternative can be checked for that home. An optional paid guarantor service may be considered only if you qualify and the landlord accepts it; it does not guarantee a tenancy. Six or twelve months upfront is not an alternative offered for our listings. Arrange a live video viewing where access allows and wait for the agency’s secure document-upload instructions.
Should I choose the closest flat to LSE or a wider search?
Compare the full monthly cost: rent for the whole home, bills and transport. Holborn and Bloomsbury are starting points for a central search; Blackfriars, Southwark and Elephant & Castle need their own journey checks. A campus match does not establish walking distance. Use current listings rather than treating an example price as the typical LSE rent.

Start with the LSE campus map
The official map identifies the Old Building on Houghton Street, the Marshall Building at 44 Lincoln’s Inn Fields and other teaching buildings around Aldwych and Kingsway. Check your course building and entrance before comparing routes. A university name alone is not a complete destination.
Which areas should you compare?
Holborn and Bloomsbury
A useful starting point if walking to campus matters. Compare the actual street, stairs or lift, study space and the full rent; a smaller central flat may cost more than a larger home farther away.
Blackfriars and Southwark
Compare homes on both sides of the river. Check the bridge crossing, the walk from the station and the route back after an evening class. Read the Blackfriars guide.
Elephant & Castle
A wider search for people happy to commute. Compare bus and rail options to your building rather than treating a direct Tube line as essential. See the area guide.
A wider London search
If you need more bedrooms or a different budget, compare the total monthly cost and a realistic weekday journey. Transport fares and time are part of the decision, not an afterthought.
Work out the whole-home budget
Prices on this site are monthly rents for an entire property. They are not a price per bedroom and do not include bills. For a shared flat, discuss the split between occupants, the deposit, utilities, broadband and council tax where applicable. Dividing the rent does not by itself confirm that the landlord accepts the proposed household.
For example, a £3,000 monthly rent split equally between two people is £1,500 each before bills and other costs. This is a calculation example, not an available property or an LSE-area average. Compare the costs and documents guide before applying.
Check the journey and the tenancy
- Use the property’s street address and your LSE teaching building in TfL Journey Planner.
- Test a morning arrival and an evening return; allow for walking, transfers and service changes.
- Check the tenancy start date, furnishings, desk space, internet arrangements and total move-in payment.
- Ask about referencing and any guarantor requirement before making financial plans. Submit documents only through the agency’s confirmed secure process.
Questions before renting for LSE
Do I have to live within walking distance?
No. A practical commute may give you more housing options. Compare the full cost and journey with how often you attend campus, including evening sessions.
Are these LSE halls or university-approved homes?
This is an independent guide to private rental homes offered through Chase Evans. It is not LSE accommodation or a university-approved service. For halls, check LSE’s own accommodation information.
Can two students share a one-bedroom apartment?
Acceptance depends on the property, the proposed occupants, referencing and the landlord’s requirements. Confirm permitted occupancy before assuming that splitting the rent makes the arrangement suitable.
Can I arrange everything before arriving in London?
Ask for a remote viewing where access allows, confirm the current rent and proposed start date, and request the agency’s application checklist. A viewing or enquiry does not reserve the property or guarantee acceptance.
Will I need a UK guarantor?
It depends on referencing and the landlord’s requirements. Ask about an acceptable guarantor and any optional paid service before applying; neither acceptance nor eligibility is automatic.
Ask for a shortlist that fits
Tell Valerio your university and teaching building, maximum monthly rent for the whole home, move-in date and number of occupants. Keep identity and financial documents out of the first enquiry.
