Renting near UCL: start with your actual campus
UCL Bloomsbury is centred on Gower Street, but the university has many buildings and also has UCL East in Stratford. A home described as “near UCL” can mean very different journeys. Before choosing a flat, find the building named on your timetable and check the route from the front door.
Choose the right starting point
Where should I rent for UCL?
For UCL Bloomsbury, start by comparing Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia. For UCL East, start with Stratford; for UCL School of Management, compare Canary Wharf. These are separate destinations, so choose your teaching campus before comparing homes.
Bloomsbury / Gower Street
Compare Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia if walking to campus matters. Check the specific street, building entrance and stairs; a district label does not establish walking time.
UCL East / Stratford
Start with Stratford and compare Hackney Wick where the full journey works. A flat convenient for Bloomsbury should not automatically be treated as convenient for UCL East.
School of Management / Canary Wharf
For teaching at One Canada Square, compare Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs. If considering Canada Water or another area, check the complete transport and walking route.

I am moving from China for UCL. Should I search Bloomsbury or Stratford?
Check your offer, department and timetable. UCL Bloomsbury and UCL East in Stratford are different campuses; the School of Management at Canary Wharf is a third destination. If your course uses more than one, compare both complete journeys. Send the actual teaching addresses when requesting a shortlist, and discuss documents and guarantor requirements before applying.

Which area should you search?
Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury: consider these first if a walk to Gower Street matters more than getting a larger home for the same rent. Our Grafton Way example is a furnished one-bedroom in a Georgian conversion; compare its stairs, storage and room layout with a new-build apartment.
A wider commute: Elephant & Castle has self-contained one-bedroom homes in the collection. It is a different daily routine and not “next to UCL”; check a realistic door-to-door Tube journey, station entrance and evening service before choosing it. Ask Valerio to filter by your actual building and budget.
Compare your total budget
Use the current campus examples above to compare whole-home rents. Add bills, travel and the deposit before choosing between a central walk and a wider commute. These examples are individual listings, not UCL-area market averages.
What will you pay beyond rent?
Read the deposit on each property page and budget separately for utilities, broadband and council tax where applicable. Bills are not included in the rent of homes offered on this site. Full-time student council tax treatment depends on the household and documentation; do not assume every mixed household is exempt. Prepare your Right to Rent and referencing documents only through the agency’s confirmed secure process. Our rental documents guide explains the practical checklist.
Ask for a useful shortlist
Tell Valerio your UCL department/building, monthly budget for the entire home, move-in date, number of occupants and whether you prefer a walk or a commute. You can then compare homes by the journey you will actually make, not a generic “near UCL” label. Compare Elephant & Castle or browse all area guides.
Questions before choosing a home
Is UCL School of Management the same destination as Bloomsbury?
No. The School of Management at One Canada Square in Canary Wharf is a separate destination; UCL East is also separate. Confirm your course building before choosing an area.
Does choosing a cheaper flat farther out always save money?
Not necessarily. Compare the whole rent, bills, transport and the time you will spend travelling. Check both morning and evening routes for your weekly timetable.
Can I share the rent with a friend?
Discuss permitted occupancy, bedrooms, tenancy responsibilities and referencing before applying. Dividing a whole-home price by two does not establish that the landlord accepts the household.
Can I apply from overseas?
Ask for a live video viewing where access allows and request the agency’s application checklist. Confirm the current rent, start date and total move-in payment. Submit identity documents only through the verified secure channel.
