Where to rent in London: start with your campus

London is a collection of neighbourhoods rather than one simple centre. A short distance on a map can still mean an awkward daily journey. Start with the teaching building you will actually visit, then compare the total rent, the route home and the kind of apartment you want.

Three questions before choosing a zone

  1. Where is your actual campus? Universities often teach in several places. Ask for the building on your timetable, not just the university name.
  2. What is your whole-home budget? Check monthly rent, the listed deposit, utilities, broadband and any council tax position for your household.
  3. What matters at home? Decide whether you need two bathrooms, a separate workspace, a lift, furnished rooms or an easier evening journey.

Match the university to the right starting areas

UCL BloomsburyGower Street and your department are the starting point. Compare Fitzrovia for a central walk, then test wider commutes. UCL East is in Stratford and needs a separate search. Read the UCL guide.
King’s College LondonStrand, Waterloo, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Denmark Hill are distinct destinations. Blackfriars, Bermondsey and Elephant & Castle may suit different campuses; check each route. Read the King’s guide.
Queen Mary University of LondonMile End has many academic schools; Whitechapel is a principal medicine and dentistry base. Charterhouse Square and West Smithfield also matter for some courses. Begin with Mile End, Stepney Green or Whitechapel for the corresponding campus, then compare wider options by journey. Read the Queen Mary guide.

LSE and Imperial: separate campus searches

For LSE, start with the actual building around Houghton Street and Aldwych. For Imperial, distinguish South Kensington from White City and any hospital or other teaching site. Our LSE rental guide and Imperial rental guide explain areas, whole-home budgets and questions to ask before applying.

Which London areas should you compare?

Central and south: Fitzrovia can favour a UCL Bloomsbury walk. Blackfriars and Southwark can work for parts of the South Bank and central campuses. Elephant & Castle is useful for London College of Communication and for some South Bank journeys. Bermondsey offers a different residential feel; the exact street and station matter. East London: Whitechapel and Mile End are logical starting points for Queen Mary, depending on the course. Aldgate and Wapping may offer alternative connections. Royal Docks has DLR and access to the Elizabeth line at Custom House; it is a broader commute choice for many campuses, not a home beside Queen Mary. Check door-to-door travel on TfL Journey Planner at the time you would actually leave.

Why work with Valerio through Chase Evans?

Valerio is a London lettings agent at Chase Evans and your personal point of contact. He can help narrow a search by your exact campus, budget and move-in date, arrange a viewing or remote viewing where available, and explain what information to prepare for the agency. Chase Evans handles the property offering and confirms the final availability, rent and tenancy terms. This is Valerio’s independent personal website, not an official Chase Evans website.

Chase Evans describes its business as a London agency for lettings, sales and property management, with branches serving several parts of London. The practical benefit here is one contact who can compare relevant options across locations while checking them with the agency. Meet Valerio or prepare your rental documents.

Ask for a shortlist that actually fits

Send Valerio your university and building, maximum monthly rent for the whole home, move-in date, number of occupants, preferred areas and any must-have features. Ask for current availability and the deposit before making plans. You can start from the map, all properties or the contact button at the top of this page.

Questions before choosing a home

What information makes a shortlist useful?

Send your exact campus or workplace, maximum whole-home monthly rent, move date, occupants, bedroom needs and any essential accessibility or home features.

Does a property search confirm availability?

No. Saved listings and filters help you compare options; Valerio and the agency must reconfirm the current rent, date and acceptance requirements.

How do I compare a shared flat with a studio?

Compare your share of rent and bills, the deposit, private space, allowed occupants and tenancy responsibilities. A lower per-person figure alone does not establish the best option.

Can I apply from overseas?

Ask for a live video viewing where access allows and request the agency’s application checklist. Confirm the current rent, start date and total move-in payment. Submit identity documents only through the verified secure channel.
